how do I choose the right flowers for my wedding?
Your wedding day is one of the most special and memorable days of your life as a couple you want every aspect of your big day to reflect your love story and individual style. From the dress to the venue every detail plays a crucial role in creating the perfect ambience for your wedding. When it comes to visuals wedding flowers are an essential element that tie everything together. Flowers have been a traditional part of weddings for centuries symbolising love new beginnings amongst many other things. They can not only have symbolic meaning but also serve as a way to showcase your personal style and add a touch of beauty to your special day. From bouquets, arbours to center pieces flowers can transform any space and enhance the overall aesthetics of your wedding.
Now let's talk about some things to consider when choosing your wedding day flowers you may know exactly what you want and have something very specific in mind. Or you may have an idea of what you want, but flexible with your choice.
You can choose between fresh, dried flowers or artificial and combinations they all have their advantages and disadvantages. Each providing unique looks, advantages and benefits.
White flowers are the traditional classic, elegant and often timeless choice for many brides. They can be arranged and changed in endless ways. Most brides would now be aware there are many shades of “ white” they range from true, to off, antique all the way to ivory. Your flowers ideally should match your dress , so for example if you held ivory cream roses against a white dress it will not look as true white roses, its a little detail, but one often overlooked.
If choosing to use colours. Myself I use a simple formula where the feature colour is a match to the bridesmaids dresses, then where possible or wanted, add a touch of the groomsman's suit color and then refer to the color wheel to choose a contrasting color to accentuate the whole overall bouquet. This ties in all the wedding party and creates a more uniform look in my opininon. However ultimately when it comes to wedding flowers there are no right or wrong choices it is a very personal thing and it should be a reflection of you as a couple, so don't be afraid to incorporate unique and meaningful elements into your floral arrangements, there are endless possibilities
Your dress and how detailed it is, is something to consider. If its very detailed or “ busy” so to speak, it could be a better idea to have a more simple bouquet hat doesn't take away from your dress-compliments rather than competes as you walk down the aisle.
If you have a theme or certain colours you are using in the bouquets, its always good to match them with your ceremony and reception flowers.
It is important to choose the right florist who can understand your vision and bring it to life. An experienced and good florist can work with you to create your desired wedding day florals. Make suggestions based off past experience and offer good alternatives if required.
It is important and essential to communicate budgets and discuss costs initially. To get the most accurate quote, when enquiring it is best to give as many details as possible, provide numbers, if you have a large wedding party or reception. Often discounts can be applied. If you are able to provide a photo of something ( even just similar) to what you are wanting to achieve, that is always helpful.
Another thing to keep in mind when choosing a florist is there style of work, florists tend to have their own signature style, it is a good idea to look at their previous work, to consider if there style aligns with yours and if you think they can bring your vision to life.
At the same time a good florist will be able to adapt their skills to suit your preferences and create something special for your big day.
